This was a highly entertaining reading. It was wonderful to see a Shakespeare play with all women and a few men. The women had to perform amazing physicality and convey the comedy through Shakespeare’s prose. In Shakespeare’s works, too often the women are the ‘straight men’ so it was a breath of fresh air to see the women in their comedic roles.
What I learned from this is that written lines can mean a few different things, and the actors and director choose what to emphasize and pull upon. The more fearless and joyful actors are, all the better.
It was beautifully performed and directed and I look forward to Shakespeare this summer.
